The EV9 is likely to be priced around ₹80 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
On October 3, Kia India will launch not one but two new products in the country. The first is the Carnival MPV and the second is the EV9. The brand’s flagship model was also crowned the 2024 World Car of the Year. It remains to be seen if Kia India will announce the prices of the EV9 tomorrow or later this year. So here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming electric SUV.
The EV9 uses Kia’s new design language called Digital Tiger Face. It gets a closed-off grille, as is the case with all electric vehicles. The EV9 also gets vertical headlamps with L-shaped LED DRLs. It rides on 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with a triangular pattern. It has vertically oriented taillamps with inverted L-shaped lighting elements. The charging port for the battery is located on the right rear fender. It will be available in five colour options – Snow White Pearl, Ocean Blue, Panthera Metal, Pebble Gray and Aurora Black Pearl.
Inside, the EV9 gets three screens on the dashboard – a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster and a 5-inch touchscreen for HVAC controls. It also gets a few touch-based controls beneath the infotainment display. The EV9 is available only as a six-seater with captain seats in the second row. These seats get power adjustment, massaging, heating and cooling functions as well as an ottoman. The EV9 only gets a black and brown dual-tone cabin theme.
The EV9 also gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, three-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, a 14-speaker audio system from Meridian, a 360-degree camera, among others. Safety features include 10 airbags, ESC, hill-hold assist, all-wheel disc brakes along with 27 features for the level 2 ADAS.
It is powered by two electric motors that churn out 379 bhp and 700 Nm. The EV9 can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 5.3 seconds. Its 99.8 kWh battery gives it a range of 561 km (ARAI). The battery can be charged from 10-80 in 24 minutes using a 350 kW DC charger. The EV9 measures over 5015 mm, 1980 mm and 1780 mm in length, width and height, respectively and has a wheelbase of 3100 mm.
The EV9 is expected to be priced around ₹80 lakh*. While there are very few three-row electric SUVs, it will only have one direct rival which is the Mercedes-Benz EQB (₹70.90 - 77.50 lakh*). However it will also rival the likes of the Audi Q8 e-tron (₹1.14 - 1.32 crore*) and BMW iX (₹1.39 crore*). *All prices ex-showroom, India.
