Kia India has achieved a significant milestone, selling 10 lakh units in India. This milestone has been achieved in less than five years since Kia set up shop in India. The Kia Seltos has been the biggest driver for Kia India’s sales ever since.
The Seltos accounts for 48 per cent of Kia India’s total domestic sales. It is followed by the Sonet and Carens at 34 per cent and 16 per cent, respectively. The Seltos was launched in 2019, while the Sonet was launched in 2020. The Carens is the latest model to arrive, with it being launched in 2022.
Kia India also mentioned that 42 per cent of the total sales come from top-spec trims. Furthermore, the three automatic gearboxes (CVT, 6-speed AT and 7-speed DCT) collectively account for 32 per cent of the total sales. On the other hand, the brand’s clutch-less manual (iMT) account for 15 per cent of the total sales. Lastly, Kia India said that its petrol-to-diesel ratio remains at 59 to 41 per cent.
In 2019, Kia India’s annual sales amounted to 45,226 units. This then grew to 1.40 lakh in 2020, 1.81 lakh in 2021, 2.54 lakh in 2022 and 2.55 lakh in 2023. Between January and July 2024, Kia India has already sold more than 1.5 lakh units in the domestic market. Coming to exports, Kia India has already crossed the 2.5 lakh unit sales milestone in June this year.
Joonsu Cho, Chief Sales Officer, Kia India, said, “These milestones become even more important when you face diversity at every step of this country and competition from legacy players with more than a decade of experience. Kia is synonymous with innovation. With our latest technology, design, and in-car features, we constantly challenge established practices, not only in India but globally as well. We will soon launch our global flagships in India this year, followed by a home-grown new model, which will prove the above claim."
