Kia is working on a facelift for its compact SUV, the Sonet. It is expected to launch in India in the coming months. Ahead of that, fresh images of the Kia Sonet facelift have emerged online that preview its design.
The Sonet made its debut in India in September 2020 and this is the first time the compact SUV will be getting a mid-lifecycle update. However, Kia India has confirmed that the Sonet facelift coming to the Indian market will differ from the one seen in the images.
The upcoming Sonet facelift gets a redesigned front end with a new bumper and headlight assembly. The headlights have the same basic shape but now have extended portions that house the revised LED daytime running lamps. While the shape of the grille remains largely the same, the inserts have been slightly redesigned.
Two different Sonet facelift variants can be seen in these images. This is evident by the fact that two different designs for the dual-tone alloy wheels and the absence of roof rails on one car. These seem to be the only revisions to the profile of the upcoming Sonet facelift.
At the back, the Sonet facelift gets redesigned tail-lamps which are connected like before but have been redesigned to look similar to the new Seltos facelift. Even the bumper has been redesigned with a more prominent faux skid plate.
The Sonet facelift continues with a single-pane sunroof, as confirmed by the spy shots. It will also come with roof rails, an extended rear spoiler and chrome treatment around the greenhouse and the door handles.
Interior of the Sonet facelift is not visible in these images but it is expected to get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, semi-digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, cruise control and more.
Under the hood, it is likely to continue with the existing 82 bhp, 115 Nm, 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 118 bhp, 172 Nm, 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired to a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Sonet facelift is also likely to offer the existing 114 bhp, 250 Nm, 1.5-litre diesel engine that is coupled with either a 6-speed iMT or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
