Kia has thrown down the gauntlet in India's compact electric SUV space with the Syros EV, launched this week at an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹13.49 lakh. It arrives directly in the crosshairs of the Tata Nexon EV, the segment's long-standing favourite and one of the best-selling electric cars in the country.

On paper, the Syros EV pulls ahead in almost every measurable way. Its 51.4kWh battery pack delivers a claimed ARAI range of 526km, comfortably eclipsing the Nexon EV's best figure of 489km from its 45kWh Long Range battery. The Kia's motor is also more powerful, and it undercuts the Nexon EV's charging times on the larger battery.

Kia Syros EV vs Tata Nexon EV: Who Should Buy Which One?

Where the Nexon EV claws some ground back is familiarity, service network depth, and price accessibility at the entry level, along with a five-star Bharat NCAP rating and years of real-world reliability data that the Syros EV simply cannot match yet, being brand new to market. The Nexon EV also offers a lifetime battery warranty on its 45kWh variant, a benefit Kia matches with its own lifetime warranty and buyback scheme.

What the Syros EV misses out on is proven longevity and a lower starting price, while the Nexon EV misses out on outright range, boot space, and rear-seat versatility. It also lacks the Kia's sliding, reclining and ventilated rear seats. For buyers prioritising range and features, the Syros EV looks compelling; for those wanting a tried-and-tested EV with a slightly gentler price tag, the Nexon EV remains hard to ignore.
