The Tasman is Kia’s first pickup truck and will make its global debut in 2025.
Just days after revealing the name of its upcoming pickup truck, Kia has shared a camouflaged image of the Tasman. The camouflage, designed in partnership with artist Richard Boyd-Dunlop, is themed around ‘The Path Never Taken’, which Kia says underscores the Tasman’s adventurous spirit.
Kia said Australia’s large and diverse landscapes have inspired the camouflage. Boyd-Dunlop added that the landscape in Australia has loads of yellows and reds and everything is big and bold. Hence, yellow is the primary colour of the camouflage on the upcoming Tasman and it also has lots of shades of red, orange, green and blue.
Boyd-Dunlop also said, “This design resonates as it evokes my own personal experiences travelling across Australia and the encounters that I had. These experiences are influential to my work, and the Tasman enabled me to create a continuation of this, depicting the connection, joy, and sheer sense of adventure that is inherent to Australian culture.”
Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design said, “Our Tasman pickup truck embodies Kia’s commitment to design and innovation, as well as its spirit of adventure. Artist Richard Boyd-Dunlop crafted an exclusive camouflage design, with the support of the Kia design team, which depicts a journey and reflects the essence of adventure that is unique to the Tasman.”
Apart from the camouflage, the teaser image also gives a bunch of details about the design of the upcoming pickup truck from Kia. First off, it shows that the Tasman has a very boxy design language, as expected in a pick-up truck. Furthermore, it also has boxy fenders which also house the headlamps that have vertical LED DRLs. The rear fenders have a fuel filler cap. While the fascia is under heavy camouflage, it does show the Tasman will have a square-ish grille with five vertical slats.
The upcoming Kia Tasman will have a six-spoke design for the alloy wheels which are wrapped in big, off-road-ready tyres. It will have a crew cab design and the window line sweeps upwards near the C Pillar.
The Tasman will make its global debut in 2025 and will be launched in a phased manner. Kia is targeting markets like Australia, South Korea, Africa and the Middle East with the Tasman.
