The KTM 390 Adventure R offers suspension upgrades over the other 390 Adventure variants that make it more suited for trail bashing.
When KTM launched the new-gen 390 Adventure in India in late 2024, many wondered why the Austrian bikemaker skipped the more hardcore, adventure-friendly R variant. Well, KTM has finally answered their prayers and launched the much-awaited 390 Adventure R in India. Priced at ₹3,77,917 (ex-showroom), the 390 Adventure R slots right in the middle of the road-biased Adventure X and the top-spec 390 Adventure (internationally sold as the 390 Adventure S).
This makes it almost ₹19,000 more affordable than the KTM 390 Adventure S. Bookings are open at Rs. 2,000 across KTM dealerships in India.
Model | Price |
KTM 390 Adventure X | ₹3,28,018 |
KTM 390 Adventure R | ₹3,77,915 |
KTM 390 Adventure S | ₹3,96,744 |
Being a more off-road-focused motorcycle, the KTM 390 Adventure R gets different hardware components in comparison to the standard 390 Adventure. For starters, suspension travel has been upgraded to 230 mm at both ends as compared to 200 mm travel at the front and 205 mm at the rear offered in the 390 Adventure. This is the same setup that is used in the export-spec 390 Enduro R.

Further, the wheel setup also differs between the two variants, with the R featuring an off-road-focused 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels fitted with tubed Mitas Enduro Trail tyres, while the standard model gets a 21/17-inch setup paired with tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres. This also answers why the Adventure R costs less than the standard 390 Adventure R.

The change in hardware specs has also resulted in an increase in ground clearance which now stands at 272 mm. However, this has compromised the seat height which has now gone up to a towering 870 mm, a sharp increase of 40 mm. Visually, the Adventure R variant can be differentiated by its orange-finished trellis frame and unique graphics, however, beyond this, the bike gets the same design as the other 390 Adventure variants.

Powering the KTM 390 Adventure R is the same 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that develops 46 bhp and 39 Nm of peak torque. This motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slip and assist clutch. The electronic package also remains unchanged with features such as ride-by-wire, traction control, cornering ABS and multiple ride modes, and bi-directional quickshifter.
