Both bikes might share the 45 bhp/ 39 Nm 398.63 cc engine, but each has its own dedicated purpose.
KTM has finally launched its latest generation of single-cylinder Adventure bikes, and contrary to previous speculations, there are two distinct variants – Standard and X. The former is a pucca off-road oriented option, while the latter will be more road-biased, perfectly suited for highway runs. Due to this, both bikes are packaged slightly differently, and the same has been explained below:
Both bikes are built around a new trellis architecture, and the WP Apex USD fork and mono shock combination that the frame rests upon are also the same. But on the 390 Adventure X, the front fork is non-adjustable, and the rear shock gets 10-step preload adjustability. On the 390 Adventure, the front fork gets compression and rebound adjustability options, while the rear shock gets rebound and preload adjustability as standard. Beyond that, the 200 mm/ 205 mm travel is standard on both the bikes.
Further reasserting their distinct riding character is the fact that the standard KTM 390 Adventure rides on 21-/17-inch wheels, while the 390 Adventure X rides on a 19-/17 wheel combination. Either way, the rims in both the bikes are shod with Apollo Trampler as per their respective size.
Due to the above hardware differences, the standard 390 Adventure has a seat height of 830 mm, while the 390 Adventure X sits 5 mm less at 825 mm. Both get the same 14.5-litre fuel, but with it filled to the brim, the standard bike weighs 183 kg, while the X variant is 1 kilo lighter at 182 kg.
The KTM 390 Adventure gets the full spread here. Starting with the debut feature of the segment, cruise control, along with ride assists like switchable MTC, Cornering MTC, Cornering ABS, and Off-Road ABS, the new KTM 390 Adventure is specced out for the trails. There are three ride modes in the mix: Street, Rain, and Off-Road, along with a Quickshifter and a slipper clutch. The KTM 390 Adventure X gets just the last two and an Off-Road ride mode only as standard features.
However, the 5-inch TFT screen is the same in both bikes. But smartphone connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation, music playback and call/SMS alert via KTM connect will be available with the standard Adventure only.
The KTM 390 Adventure X is available in an all-orange scheme called Electronic Orange and a lighter-looking Ceramic White option. The standard bike also has the same options but with more aggressive graphic styling.
The hardware and feature differences have affected the bikes' respective asking prices. With all the bells and whistles, the new 2025 KTM 390 Adventure is priced at ₹3.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), while the KTM 390 Adventure X is priced at ₹2.91 lakh. Bookings for both bikes had already commenced for a nominal amount of ₹2,000 (online), and deliveries are scheduled to start soon by mid-February.
