The smaller sibling of the 690 Enduro R, the new KTM 390 Enduro R packs in the same dirt capability, without compromising its on-road credentials.
Months after KTM took the wraps off its 390 Enduro R, the Austrian bikemaker has now officially revealed the bike’s specs. It carries forward the legacy of the KTM 690 Enduro R in a much smaller and compact package. Bookings for the bike have already commenced in India, with its launch scheduled to take place some time in the coming weeks.
The new KTM 390 Enduro R will carry forward the same 399 cc, LC4c mill that the brand first debuted with the third-gen 390 Duke. In the enduro bike, it has been tuned to dish out the same 44 bhp and 39 Nm. KTM also claims that the engine has become more reliable with prolonged maintenance intervals, with the initial service at 1,000 km and subsequent services every 10,000 km. While valve checks are scheduled at 20,000 km intervals.
The engine is nestled inside a two-piece steel trellis main frame paired with an aluminum subframe. The architecture rests on WP APEX-sourced 43 mm open cartridge fork and an off-center shock absorber at the rear, both offering an incredible 230mm of wheel travel. The bike rolls on dirt-ready 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels. On the Euro-spec bike, the wheels are shod with Metzeler Karoo 4 tyres but on the India-spec bike, we will get Mitas rubber. Braking duties are handled by BYBRE components - a 285mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc, with dual-channel ABS available as standard. The motorcycle weighs 159 kg (dry) and features a smaller 9-litre fuel tank. But with a massive ground clearance of 272 mm, the KTM 390 Enduro R ends up with a staggering seat height of 890 mm.
To complement the bike’s rugged capabilities, KTM is offering the 390 Enduro R with a dedicated ‘Off-road’ mode. Along with that it also gets switchable ABS which includes standard and off-road mode. The controls to all of which can be accessed via a 4.2-inch TFT display that also supports smartphone connectivity for navigation, music, and calls.
As mentioned above, bookings for the KTM 390 Enduro R have already commenced across all KTM showrooms in India. It is expected to launch in the country by February 2025, and it will launch in a segment with barely any competition. Now all that remains to be known is by how much the bike will be priced at.
