KTM is back! Or rather, the Mattighofen plant is back up and running. After being off the grid for a few months due to self-administration, the Austrian bike maker has commenced production at its manufacturing facility in Mattighofen. KTM has restarted manufacturing after paying off €600 million (approximately ₹55,377 crores) to creditors. While this may represent just 30 per cent of the total debts that were shared by three insolvencies, a further €150 million (approximately ₹13,844 crores) is required to continue manufacturing. The brand had also received significant investment help, likely from Bajaj who has been one of its long-time aides, last year.

While KTM has not confirmed the models with which it has resumed production, the brand launched many new bikes last year at EICMA 2024. Some of these include the new KTM 1390 Super Duke GT and the new 1390 Super Adventure range, both of which use a brand new 1,350 cc, V-twin engine. Alongside, KTM had also launched the 990 RCR sports bike, and the 990 Duke R naked, both of which are slated to hit production too.

It also has to clear off a massive inventory backlog of 2,65,000 bikes, though. This unsold lot was one of the primary reasons that created a massive overflow that led to a staggering liquidity requirement of €440 million (approximately ₹38,941 crores). It was due to this that KTM was required to cut its inventory by 40,000 units, and in the process had to launch some of its big bikes, like the KTM 1290 Super Adventure, 1390 Super Duke R Evo, the 890 Adventure R, etc and several more to India. Expect more of these big KTMs to come to India shortly.
