The Urus SE comes to India less than four months after its global debut with a slightly new design.

In less than four months of its global premiere, the Lamborghini Urus SE plug-in hybrid SUV has launched in India. It is priced at ₹4.57 crore (ex-showroom, India). This is not the first hybrid by Lamborghini as the Sian FKP 37 and the Revuelto precede it, but it is the brand’s first hybrid SUV.

The Urus SE has a slightly different design than the pure ICE variants, the Urus S and Urus Performante. It has different headlamps, bonnet, bumper and front grille. The headlamps are now slightly slimmer with C-shaped LED DRLs, which Lamborghini says is inspired by a bull’s tail. The bonnet now extends to the grille's edge, unlike the other two Urus models. It also has a new design for the alloy wheels. Apart from this, not much has changed in the profile compared to the Urus S.

However, things are slightly different at the back compared to the Urus S and Performante models. The Urus SE gets a new tailgate with a crease in the middle, a new mesh panel connecting the taillamps and the number plate housing has now moved to the bumper.

Lamborghini says that with the spoiler and the redesigned diffuser, the Urus SE’s downforce has been increased by 35 per cent compared to the Urus S. Furthermore, the Urus SE also gets new under-body air vents and ducts to help improve aero by 15 per cent. And the brakes have better cooling than before, an increase of 30 per cent.

The interior of the Urus SE also gets a slight nip and tuck to make it look different compared to the Urus S. The redesigned dashboard houses a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replacing the 10.1-inch unit from the Urus S. Even the digital instrument cluster is a 12.3-inch unit. Customisation options, like always, are endless with the Urus SE as it gets a choice of 100 exterior colour options and 47 interior colour options with the Lamborghini Ad Personam bespoke programme.

The Urus SE is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine assisted by an electric motor and a 25.9 kWh battery pack. Combined, the powertrain produces 789 bhp and 950 Nm and power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Lamborghini

Lamborghini claims the Urus SE has an electric-only range of 60 km on a full charge and can run in electric-only mode at speeds of up to 130 kmph before the combustion engine kicks in. Lamborghini also claims the Urus SE can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 312 kmph. For reference, the Urus S does the sprint in 3.5 seconds, while the Urus Performante does it in 3.3 seconds. The Urus S has a top speed of 305 kmph, while the Performante has a top speed of 306 kmph.

The Urus SE also gets 10 driving modes which include the existing Strada, Sport, Corsa, Neve, Sabbia and Terra. The first three are for road and track use, while the latter three are for off-road use. The four new modes are EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance and Recharge. The first two are pretty self-explanatory as they allow for electric-only and hybrid driving. The Recharge mode, which can be used along with Strada, Sport Corsa and Neve modes, helps recharge the battery to up to 80 per cent while maintaining performance. The Performance mode can be used on all of the on and off-road modes.

Lamborghini

Like the Urus S, the SE also gets air suspension for a more comfortable ride. Lamborghini says the suspension travel can range between 15 mm in Corsa mode and 75 mm in off-road modes. In Strada mode, Lamborghini claims the Urus SE is tuned for better comfort than the Urus S while being firmer in Corsa mode.

As for the rivals, the Urus SE competes with the BMW XM in terms of performance but not the price (₹2.6 crore ex-showroom, India). Globally it also sort of competes with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo e-Hybrid, from which it borrows its powertrain. On the other hand, the Urus S and Perfomante rival the likes of the Aston Martin DBX 707, Ferrari Purosangue, Audi RSQ8 and Bentley Bentayga.
