There’s good news and not-so-good news for enthusiasts who were looking forward to a larger Hero XPulse. The good news is the bigger XPulse is coming soon. The not-so-good: it isn’t as big as you might have imagined. Yes, Hero is readying its XPulse 210, which is larger than the current 199 cc 4-valve version but it isn’t the 400+ cc ADV tourer that we had hoped for. The new XPulse 210 was spotted on test recently in the Himalayas and we think the bike will be launched as early as November this year.
Noticeably, the 210 cc liquid-cooled motor from the Karizma XMR is plonked into this ADV. On the Karizma, the motor puts out 25.15 bhp and 20.4 Nm. However, expect a change in tune to suit the XPulse’s adventure touring needs as well as the extra heft it has to lug around. Furthermore, we think there will also be a difference in the final drive on the new XPulse, both when compared to the older XPulse as well as the Karizma. This would be done to make the bike stretch its legs out on the highway without compromising on the off-roading abilities.
The Karizma XMR is a bike that is happy to sit at triple digit speeds on the highway with a bit more poke available for overtakes. Hence, we can expect something similar for the XPulse as the current air-/oil-cooled variant struggles to maintain a decent pace while touring. The addition of the sixth cog should also help in calming matters for the highway. Another bit to note is that the exhaust routing is further upswept than the current XPulse. The end can is slimmer and longer, something that will increase its water-wading capabilities.
Expect Hero to develop a Pro/Rally version of the same with adjustable suspension and knobby tyres. The XPulse Pro turns out to be a pretty serious off-roader and with the added oomph from the 210 cc motor, we can hope it to be even more fun.
We think Hero would be showing off the new XPulse 210 by November. The brand has a lot of new products to show off at EICMA 2024 with the XPulse likely to be one of them. And hopefully, the deliveries for the motorcycle start soon thereafter. The asking price of the XPulse 210 will be quite a bit more than the current ₹1.47 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) that one has to pay for the standard 4V model. The reasonable premium for the new model is likely to be somewhere between ₹7,000-₹10,000 given the advanced engine technology at play.
