This will be Mahindra’s fifth unveiling on India’s Independence Day since 2020.
Mahindra is gearing up for another launch on India’s Independence Day and this time, it will be the 5-door version of the Thar. Mahindra began this trend with the 3-door Thar in 2020, followed by the XUV700 in 2021. In 2022 and 2023, Mahindra showcased a plethora of concept vehicles like the XUV.e and BE range as well as the Thar.e and Global Pik Up, respectively.

The 5-door Thar has been spotted testing on multiple occasions, and recently, images of the production version surfaced online. The recent images show that the 5-door version will have a different fascia compared to the 3-door Thar.

The upcoming rugged SUV will get a different fascia compared to its smaller version. It will have a redesigned grille which is larger than before, new LED headlamps and a slightly different bumper. The 5-door Thar will be around 300 mm longer than the 3-door version, which will also see the addition of the rear doors. The rear will look similar to the smaller Thar with square taillamps and a slightly redesigned bumper.

Inside, the 5-door SUV will get a new 10.25-inch touchscreen, a new steering wheel, a single-pane sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, and more. The safety features list is expected to include six airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, etc.

The 5-door Thar is likely to continue with the same powertrains as the 3-door iteration. Expect a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It will rival the Force Gurkha (₹16.75 - 18 lakh) and Maruti Suzuki Jimny (₹12.75 - 14.79 lakh).
