The company is also witnessing a strong demand for the XUV 3XO in export markets
The Mahindra XUV 3XO has seen a lot of demand said, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO, Auto and Farm Sector, Mahindra and Mahindra. The company has a production capacity of 9000 units per month for the 3XO and that is likely to go up given the demand for the product. The XUV 3XO was rejuvenated last year and came in with a whole bunch of new features in the subcompact SUV segment, even bringing in segment first features like – Level 2 ADAS.
But it’s the petrol 3XO that’s witnessing a strong demand and according to Jejurikar, 70% of the sales for the subcompact SUV are of the gasoline engine. Speaking to the media at the company’s financial result announcement, Jejurikar said, “The demand for 3XO has been strong and skewing more towards gasoline than what we were hoping for. We are always known to be a diesel-oriented brand. Right now almost 70% of our sales are gasoline and the demand for this is even higher than the percentage of the total product.”
While the demand for the product spells good news for the carmaker, it has decided to step up production, given that the 3XO has been garnering strong demand in export markets as well. He said, “We are going to step up the 3XO production, which will unlock the diesel/gasoline mix. We will try to take the production up somehow. We launched the 3XO in South Africa recently, and it’s doing extremely well there.”
Mahindra sells around 700 units/month (of the XUV 3XO) in the South African market and overall export numbers are around 1200 units/month. The 3XO clearly has been a strong seller for the company in India and it is capitalising on the global demand for the product too.
