Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift (2026): Fuel Efficiency, Variants, and All You Need to Know

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled a mid-lifecycle facelift for its premium hatchback, the Baleno. With a striking new front grille design, a whole new engine, and several premium features coming to higher variants, the Baleno is now better equipped to compete against even some entry-level SUVs available at around the same price level. It competes with the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz.

Here’s a look at all the details Maruti Suzuki announced at its launch event, and much more.

Full pricing for all variants hasn’t been announced yet, but the base variant starts at ₹6,09,900 (ex-showroom). It comes in five broad trim levels: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, and Alpha (O). All but the lowest-spec Sigma version will be available with AMT as an option instead of manual transmission, and the Delta and Zeta trims will also have a CNG MT option.

The 2026 Baleno comes in a new signature colour called Enigmatic Teal Green, which certainly stands out. The other options are Nexa Blue, Opulent Red, Arctic White, Splended Silver, Grandeur Grey, and Bluish Black.

Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki has brought in a new engine with this facelift. The Baleno now uses the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated Z-series engine that powers the current-gen Swift and Dzire. While there is a slight reduction in power compared to the outgoing four-cylinder 1.2 litre engine, torque is pretty much the same and fuel efficiency has been boosted.

The most noticeable change with the new Baleno is its dramatic front, with a bold grille, revised bumper, and new higher position for the Suzuki badge. The back has not had as much of a makeover. All trims get a shark fin antenna and roof spoiler, while details such as chrome garnishes, LED projector headlamps, and painted alloy wheels come with higher-cost variants.

On the inside, there’s a dual-tone colour scheme with fabric seats, and higher variants get artificial leather details.

All variants have six airbags standard, along with ABS, EBD, ESP, seatbelt reminders, ISOFIX anchor points, reverse parking sensors, a high-speed alert system, front seatbelt height adjustment and force limiters, and brake assist. Higher trims get some additional features such as side and curtain airbags and a rear parking camera.

A lot of the headlining features of the new Baleno are limited to the higher-priced variants. Nearly all ADAS features such as lane keep assist, lane departure warnings, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warnings, and advanced emergency braking are exclusive to the top Alpha (O) trim — the Alpha trim gets only adaptive high beams. 

Both Alpha tiers get front ventilated seats, a Head-Up Display, 360-degree cameras, auto-folding ORVMs, an auto-dimming IRVM, LED fog lamps, and a Clarion sound system.  

Zeta variants and above get the Hi Suzuki voice assistant plus Suzuki Connect features including live vehicle tracking, immobilisation, tow away alerts, geofencing, remote dashboard view, and geofencing, amongst others. Also at this level, buyers will get a larger infotainment touchscreen, TFT MID in the instrument cluster, height-adjustable driver’s seat, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, side and curtain airbags, wireless phone charger with active cooling, automatic climate control, LED headlights, a rear wiper and washer, and a rear parking camera.

Many comfort features start at the Delta trim, such as a rear parcel tray, steering-mounted audio controls, rear AC vents, rear USB charging ports, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and a smaller touchscreen infotainment system.

The base Sigma variant, which is only available with a manual transmission, doesn’t have the infotainment system or speakers at all. It also lacks a front-centre armrest. However, buyers still get remote keyless entry, front and rear power windows, a rear defogger, tilt-adjustable power steering, a roof spoiler, and signature LED taillights.
