Maruti Suzuki has achieved a new significant milestone, dispatching more than 20 lakh vehicles using the Indian railways in the past 10 years. Using the railways to dispatch vehicles is an eco-friendly method and Maruti Suzuki is the first automaker in India to achieve this milestone.

The brand claims that using the railways has saved 27 crore litres of fuel in 10 years, along with reducing its CO2 emissions by around 10,000 metric tonnes during the same period. In financial year (FY) 2014-15, Maruti Suzuki dispatched nearly 66,000 units and has scaled up to almost 4.48 lakh units in FY 2023-24. The brand sends vehicles to 20 destinations which serve over 450 cities in the country.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki, commented, “Maruti Suzuki pioneered the use of railways for vehicle dispatches over a decade ago by becoming the first company in India to obtain the Automobile-Freight-Train-Operator license. Since then, the company has systematically increased its share of vehicle dispatches using railways.”

Maruti Suzuki plans to double its production from 20 lakh to 40 lakh units by FY 2030-31 and plans to further use the railways for this. To this aspect, it already has an in-plant railway siding at its facility in Gujarat which has a capacity to dispatch three lakh cars annually. Furthermore, the Manesar plant is also getting in-plant siding which will be operational soon.
