Maruti Suzuki has said cumulative Dzire sales in India have crossed 30 lakh units since launch.

Maruti Suzuki’s Dzire has become India’s best-selling car in financial year 2025-26, ahead of popular SUVs that lead most sales charts.

Data for April 2025 to February 2026 shows the Dzire with 2,07,906 wholesales, the highest for any passenger vehicle in this period. Tata’s Nexon SUV is in second place with 1,96,244 units, followed by Hyundai’s Creta SUV with 1,84,083 units.

This performance means the Dzire is set to end the WagonR’s four-year run as India’s highest-selling car; Maruti Suzuki sold 1,98,451 units of the WagonR in FY24-25. The shift also repeats the model’s showing in calendar year 2025, when the Dzire topped the country’s model-wise sales with about 2.14 lakh units.

The Dzire’s lead comes in a market where SUVs account for more than half of passenger vehicle volumes. Seven of the ten best-selling models in calendar 2025 were SUVs or SUV-based crossovers, but the compact sedan still finished ahead of them on the annual chart.

Within the subcompact and compact sedan space, the Dzire has stayed in front of rivals such as the Hyundai Aura, Honda Amaze, Tata Tigor, Volkswagen Virtus, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia, Honda City and Maruti Ciaz. In March 2025, the Dzire sold 15,460 units, more than the combined sales of the other mass-market sedans on the chart; the Aura recorded 5,074 units and the Amaze 3,583 units in that month.

Sedan sales remain much lower than volumes in SUV segments, but monthly data through 2025 and early 2026 shows steady dispatches for the Dzire even as some other sedans report flat or falling numbers. In February 2026, the Dzire was India’s second best-selling car overall with 19,326 units, behind the Nexon but ahead of the Punch and Creta.

Maruti Suzuki has said cumulative Dzire sales in India have crossed 30 lakh units since launch, and that the car has been its best-selling model in nine of the past eleven months. The company also points to higher demand after the GST 2.0 rate cut in 2025, which reduced ex-showroom prices for the current Dzire range.

For the subcompact sedan segment, the Dzire’s FY26 performance keeps pressure on rivals from Hyundai, Honda, Tata and Skoda, even as most new model activity and marketing focus remain with SUVs.
