The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara commands a 12 per cent market share for compact SUVs in Q1 FY25.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced that its flagship compact SUV, the Grand Vitara, has surpassed 2 lakh sales in just 23 months since its launch in 2022. Maruti claims that the Grand Vitara achieved this milestone in record time, especially in the compact SUV segment in which it rivals the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Citroën C3 Aircross and even the MG Astor. Out of the 2 lakh units sold, the strong hybrid and the CNG versions recorded 25000 units each, while the rest, 1.5 lakh units were from the mild hybrids.
Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer of Marketing & Sales at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The Grand Vitara has revolutionised the compact SUV segment by inspiring customers to make sustainable choices with our Strong Hybrid technology. This achievement underlines our commitment to clean mobility and a superior driving experience.”
In comparison to other compact SUVs in the market, the Grand Vitara's rapid sales growth outpaces competitors such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Tata Harrier, which have also enjoyed robust sales but have not matched the same pace within their respective launch windows.
With a market share of 12 per cent in Q1 FY25, the Grand Vitara has solidified Maruti Suzuki’s presence in the compact SUV segment. Its success has not only bolstered Maruti Suzuki’s credentials but also contributed to the growth of the segment overall.
Adding to the milestone is the fact that the Grand Vitara is one of the most popular products in the Nexa range, contributing to 7.35 per cent of the total shares according to the data shared for Q1 24, behind the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. To add perspective, since its launch in 2022, the Grand Vitara has commanded a 19 per cent share of the total sales Nexa made during this period.
Recently, segment-leader, Hyundai Creta achieved a significant milestone having sold 1 lakh units in the last 6 months. Interestingly, Hyundai registered one lakh bookings for the Creta in April. However, Hyundai India has sold more than 10 lakh units of the Creta since it was first launched in 2015. To give perspective, Hyundai took 25 months to reach this milestone.
