Mercedes-Benz India has launched the all-new Mercedes-AMG G 63 at an ex-showroom price of ₹3.60 crore, making it its 13th launch of the year for the German carmaker. The Mercedes-AMG G 63 retains the classic G-Class silhouette, which has evolved since its inception in 1979, while introducing several modern updates. Notably, it features an AMG-specific bumper with three vertical louvres, stainless steel inserts, and the debut of the AMG crest on the hood. Additionally, 22-inch alloy wheels are available as an option, alongside a range of colour choices. Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz India has received more than 120 orders for the AMG G 63 already, as bookings begin for Q3 2025.
In terms of design, the G 63 maintains its boxy, rugged exterior, making it instantly recognisable, but also incorporates refined elements that enhance its aggressive yet luxurious appeal. The Manufaktur customisation program offers nearly limitless personalisation, with customers able to select from 31 upholstery options and 29 paint colours.
At the heart of the new G 63 is a Handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine, which delivers an impressive 577 bhp and 850 Nm torque, complemented by an additional 20 bhp boost from its integrated starter generator. This electrified system operates with a 48-volt on-board electrical system, enhancing performance at lower speeds. As a result, the G 63 can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.3 seconds, despite its hefty size, and achieves an electronically limited top speed of 240 kmph.
For the first time, the G 63 introduces the Race Start function, enabling quicker, more dynamic launches, previously unavailable in this model. This new feature, combined with the powerful engine, positions the G 63 among the top performers in the luxury SUV segment, rivalling both off-road beasts and high-performance road vehicles.
The G 63 is equipped with AMG Active Ride Control suspension, which includes active hydraulic roll stabilization and adaptive adjustable damping. Unlike conventional systems that rely on mechanical torsion anti-roll bars, the G 63’s system uses active hydraulic elements. This setup allows the vehicle to better adapt to road conditions, ensuring smooth driving dynamics, whether on rough off-road terrains or city streets.
The AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system enhances traction and agility, making the G 63 exceptionally capable on various surfaces. Combined with adaptive dampers on all four wheels and the hydraulic roll stabilization system, the SUV offers a smooth, controlled ride even during high-speed manoeuvres or uneven terrain driving.
Inside, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 offers a blend of cutting-edge technology and luxury. The updated MBUX NTG7 infotainment system features dual 12.3-inch displays, providing crisp visuals and intuitive touch controls. Smartphone integration via Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while USB-C ports offer fast charging for mobile devices. One of the standout features is the MBUX Augmented Reality for Navigation, which overlays live graphical navigation data onto the real-time camera feed.
The interior is also equipped with Nappa leather upholstery, carbon-fibre accents, and customisable ambient lighting. The Burmester 3D Surround Sound System with 18 speakers and a 760W output adds to the immersive luxury experience. Further enhancing the comfort is the Energising Package, offering functions such as massage seats and a customisable climate experience for a more relaxing ride.
Despite its luxurious interior and high-tech features, the G 63 remains a formidable off-road machine. The redesigned off-road cockpit provides essential real-time information, including vehicle positioning, altitude, tyre pressure, steering angle, and differential lock status. For even greater control, the new "Transparent Hood" function allows drivers to virtually see through the front of the vehicle, aiding in navigating tricky off-road conditions by superimposing a view of the terrain directly below the car.
The Mercedes-AMG G 63 comes equipped with an extensive suite of advanced safety technologies. These include active brake assist, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera system, which work in tandem to ensure the safety of the driver and passengers in all driving conditions. The comprehensive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) makes the G 63 one of the safest luxury SUVs on the market today.
