The 6th generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB finally arrives in India.
Mercedes-Benz India has finally launched the new-generation version of its popular E-Class sedan in India at a starting price of ₹78.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The E-Class has long been a staple in the luxury sedan segment and with this new model, Mercedes aims to elevate the E-Class experience while maintaining the qualities that have made it a favourite over the years. With the new E-Class, Mercedes-Benz will offer two petrol and a diesel engine option, moving away from the two diesel and one petrol options from the outgoing model.
Variants | Prices (ex-showroom, India) |
---|---|
E200 | ₹78.50 lakh |
E200d | ₹81.50 lakh |
E450 | ₹92.50 lakh |
At first glance, the 2024 E-Class retains the styling cues of the outgoing model, but with key updates. The front features a larger grille adorned with miniature tri-pointed star inserts, emphasising the Mercedes-Benz identity. Surrounded by chrome elements, this grille adds a touch of luxury. The redesigned LED headlights are sleeker, giving the front end a sharper, more modern look. On the sides, the 2024 E-Class rides on newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels, and its length has increased by 17 mm, making it even more substantial on Indian roads. A standout feature is the flush-fitting door handles that pop out electrically, enhancing the sedan's sleek profile. At the rear, the redesigned LED tail lamps feature tri-pointed star elements, echoing the front grille’s design for a cohesive look. The bumper also gets minor tweaks, with additional chrome accents for contrast.
Mercedes-Benz offers the 2024 E-Class in five colour choices: Obsidian Black, High Tech Silver, Graphite Grey, Polar White, and Nautic Blue, giving customers plenty of options to suit their preferences. While the exterior changes are subtle, the interior receives significant upgrades. A three-display layout is the highlight, featuring a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch entertainment screen for the front passenger. This tech-heavy dashboard delivers a premium experience for both driver and passenger. Soft-touch materials dominate the cabin, adding to the luxurious feel. The 64-colour ambient lighting system illuminates various parts of the interior, enhancing the overall ambience.
Other high-end features include four-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and dual wireless phone chargers—one in the front and one in the rear. The powered front seats come with a memory function, and rear passengers will appreciate the powered tailgate for added convenience. Audiophiles will enjoy the 730W 17-speaker Burmester 4D sound system, which promises an immersive audio experience.
Safety remains a top priority in the 2024 E-Class, with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera for better visibility in tight spaces. It also includes a tyre pressure monitoring system for added safety. The sedan comes with advanced driver assistance features, including lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, aimed at improving safety and reducing driver fatigue on long journeys.
Under the hood, the 2024 E-Class offers two engine options, both four-cylinder units: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel, both equipped with mild-hybrid technology. The petrol unit produces 201 bhp/320 Nm of peak torque, while the diesel engine develops 194 bhp and 440 Nm of peak torque. Additionally, the mild-hybrid tech provides an additional 27 bhp boost for up to 30 seconds, enhancing performance during acceleration and improving fuel efficiency. The E450 however employs a 3.0-litre petrol engine that develops 375 bhp and 550 Nm of peak torque. This unit, coupled with the mild hybrid tech, adds 23 bhp and 205 Nm of additional boost for 30 seconds. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The new E-Class rivals the likes of the BMW 5 Series (₹76.05-₹89.15 lakh) as well as the Audi A6 (₹64.41- ₹70.79 lakh), all prices are ex-showroom, India.
