The Mercedes-Benz EQA will be the entry-level EV from the carmaker in the country.
After the Mercedes-Benz EQB, EQC (now discontinued), EQE SUV and EQS, the Indian arm of the German carmaker will expand its electric portfolio in the country with the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz EQA electric SUV next month on July 8, 2024. Earlier this year, the company shared its strategy for 2024, confirming 3 new EVs for India including the EQA, along with the EQS SUV and the EQE sedan. Once launched, the Mercedes-Benz EQA will be the entry-level EV from the carmaker in the country and will rival the Volvo XC40/C40 Recharge as well as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.
Last year, the Mercedes-Benz EQA underwent a design refresh that included subtle yet impactful cosmetic enhancements. A standout feature is the new black panel front grille adorned with a star pattern, now a standard element. This grille is complemented by a front light bar integrated with the updated LED daytime running lights. At the rear, the design has shifted from circular to horizontal light configurations, giving the vehicle a sleeker appearance. Aside from these updates, the electric crossover retains the same overall styling as its pre-facelift versions.
Inside, the EQA receives star motifs on the dashboard and door trim pieces, which are backlit, identical to the S-Class and EQS models. The interior also features Mercedes’ touch-capacitive three-spoke steering wheel and offers an option for open-pore wood trim. Additionally, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQA is equipped with a premium Burmester sound system incorporating Dolby Atmos technology. This system allows passengers to choose from four unique 'sound experiences,' such as 'silver waves' and 'vivid flux,' each altering the tone and acoustics of the music for a tailored auditory experience.
Globally, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQA is available in three trims- EQA 250+, EQA 300 4MATIC and EQA 350 4MATIC, and it will be the latter that is expected to come to our shores as well. The Mercedes-Benz EQA 350 4MATIC features a 66.5 kWh battery pack that develops 288 bhp and 520 Nm of peak torque. This helps the electric crossover to catapult from 0-100 kmph in 6 seconds with a top speed of 160 kmph, with a claimed range of 415-430 km according to the WLTP cycle.
The Mercedes-Benz EQA 250+ features a 70.5 kWh battery pack that helps develop 188 bhp and 385 Nm while the EQA 300 4MATIC from its 66.5 kWh battery pack produces 225 bhp and 390 Nm of peak torque. The claimed travel range for the EQA 250+ is about 500 km while the EQA 300 4MATIC gives 415 km on a single charge. The charge time of the EQA 350 4MATIC, EQA 250+ and EQA 300 4MATIC is 32-35 minutes from a 100 kW DC, while an 11 kW AC Wallbox charger juices up the EQA from 10-80 per cent in roughly about 7 hours.
