Aprilia’s next season lineup looks quite formidable with Jorge Martin also joining the Noale racing outfit
Another chapter of the MotoGP silly season witnesses another unexpected twist as the second runner-up of the 2023 season, Marco Bezzecchi, will make his move from the Pertimina Enduro VR46 team to the factory Aprilia Racing outfit. He will team up with Jorge Martin, 2023’s runner-up and current championship leader, for the season.
Bezzecchi, who was one of the fastest riders on the grid last year and the inaugural Bharat GP winner, was touted for a promotion up the Ducati ranks. However, considering that the factory Ducati seats are now locked in by Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez, who have a combined 11 World Championships among them, Bezzecchi looks to have sought promise elsewhere.
The Italian rider has been part of the VR46 racing academy for years and after riding for the VR46 MotoGP team for a few seasons, this move certainly is a big boost for the academy. Having said that, Ducati’s conundrum of its top talents joining rivals might just come back to haunt it. Bezzecchi is the third prominent Ducati rider to switch from Bologna to a rival European brand, following Martin and current factory Ducati rider, Enea Bastianini, who is heading to KTM.
Hopefully, Ducati and the VR46 team will find suitable replacements for the departing talent for the coming seasons. With a scant few spots remaining to be sealed for 2025 and beyond, the silly season is just bound to get a lot tastier with the racing action commencing once again at the Dutch round in Assen in the coming few days.
