Under the new KYC system, passengers need to verify their details before booking every ride.
NEMBHARAT is preparing to roll out what it describes as India’s first integrated safety initiative for ride-hailing, with a framework built around verified identities, cashless payments and real-time intervention. The move comes amid growing concern over passenger and driver safety in the sector, including recent high-profile incidents that have added urgency to the conversation.
A key element of the new system is passenger KYC, which means users will need to be verified before booking a ride. According to the company, this approach is intended to make every trip traceable and create shared accountability between passengers and driver partners, rather than placing the responsibility entirely on drivers.
The platform will also use a prepaid, cashless model. NEMBHARAT says this creates a documented identity trail linked to authenticated banking records, which could help in resolving disputes and responding to safety incidents if they arise.

To strengthen in-ride safety, NEMBHARAT plans to equip vehicles with a two-way intercom connected to a staffed control room. This would allow both the passenger and driver to speak directly with support personnel during a live ride. If a physical response becomes necessary, the company says a Quick Response Team can be deployed. An in-app SOS feature will also connect users to India’s national emergency helpline, 112.

The initiative is not limited to passengers. NEMBHARAT says its framework includes identity verification at onboarding for driver partners, along with a zero-commission model. Commercially registered vehicle drivers who complete the company’s training programme will also receive an insurance cover worth ₹15 lakh.
The company says the framework aligns with the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, including requirements related to data logging, fare transparency and insurance. NEMBHARAT, operated by World Economic Mobility Limited and governed by the Narayanihiti Trust, positions itself as a zero-subscription, zero-commission alternative to traditional aggregator models.
