The upcoming Bajaj Chetak might be built on a new platform powered by more energy-dense battery packs.
Bajaj Auto is set to up its EV game on December 20, for the brand has confirmed that it will launch a new Chetak. While details about this upcoming electric scooter are very scarce, previous reports did reveal that Bajaj Auto is working on a new electric scooter platform. The brand has also changed its battery supplier and has gone for new battery packs that are more energy-dense, which will help improve range.
With the new platform will come a new chassis, which is expected to be comparatively lighter than the one currently underpins the Chetak range. This, in turn, should help deliver more range. In the teaser image, Bajaj Auto has used the word “Fully Lifeproof”,—which can also be taken as an indication that safety will be paramount here—thereby, a bunch of new safety features can debut with the scooter, too. It’s likely that the battery will be positioned on the footboard, thereby improving underseat storage space.
The Bajaj Chetak badge has already undergone several multiplications in different variants. What started with just two trims has now expanded to include four trims, namely – 2903, 3202, 3201, and the 3201 Special Edition. All four variants were launched this year, with a more premium appeal that doesn’t compromise the scooter’s retro aesthetic. How will the upcoming Chetak fit into this scenario? Will be revealed later this month.
