The new BMW M 1000 RR is the first-ever M motorcycle from the German automaker.
BMW Motorrad brings its first-ever ‘M’ motorcycle to India, Say hello to the new BMW M 1000 RR, launched at Rs. 49 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base version and Rs. 55 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the BMW M 1000 RR Competition version. The good news is that the new BMW M 1000 RR is fully road-legal and not a limited edition model. Built on the S 1000 RR, the new BMW M 1000 RR gains power, sheds weight, and has much more aero than any other BMW motorcycle ever built.
Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “With the new BMW M 1000 RR, BMW Motorrad has set a new milestone in the field of superbikes. It is a motorcycle built for those who are driven by passion and ready to take on challenges.”
The new BMW M 1000 RR uses a 1000 cc, water-cooled four-cylinder in-line engine based on the RR power train that achieves its peak output of 210 bhp @14,500 rpm, and maximum torque of 113 Nm @ 11,000 rpm. The new M RR engine is even more powerful than the RR power train in the range from 6,000 rpm to 15,100 rpm.
All that power is useless unless it can be put to some proper use, and so BMW ensured that the aerodynamics were on point with the new BMW M 1000 RR. The M winglets on the trim front are made of clear-coat carbon and aid in producing aerodynamic downforce and thus additional wheel loads according to the speed. The front wheel load counteracts wheelie, and reduces traction control, with more power for acceleration, accounting for faster lap times. The winglets aid at curves with increased stability for late braking.
The new M RR's chassis is based on the RR with an aluminum bridge frame. It features an upgraded upside-down fork and revised central spring strut with blue spring and Full Floater Pro kinematics. The main focus was achieving top lap times on the race track. The M RR's chassis is race-oriented but also performs well on roads. Emphasis was placed on improving drivability, braking, anti-squat control, and providing the driver with optimal front and rear wheel feedback.
With the new M RR, there is a BMW motorcycle with an M brake for the first time, developed directly from the experience with the racing brakes of BMW Motorrad company racing machines in the Superbike World Championship. The M brake calipers have a blue anodised coating in combination with the M logo.
