Who doesn’t love drop tops, especially if it’s a Mercedes-Benz? The icing on the cake is when the guys at Affalterbach get involved and the latest to come out of its stable is the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet. Will it come to India? Well, it’s too soon to comment, but we hope the good folks at Mercedes-Benz India heed our request. The new Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet expands the company’s two-door cabriolet range, joining the AMG SL 55 Roadster.

Starting with the exterior, the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet features numerous AMG-specific design details including a signature A-shaped AMG radiator grille with a large centre air inlet and outer air inlets with two cross slats for increased airflow, and sharp slender lines of the LED headlights with a blue illumination but that’s optional with the digital light headlamps. It sits on standard 19-inch wheels with the option to upsize it to 20-inch. The flared front and rear wheel arches help not just for the styling but also for the aero. The optional AMG Performance Studio Package add flics on the front and rear fascia, along with a high-gloss black spoiler lip on the trunk lid with a rear diffuser panel between tailpipe trims.
The cabin of the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet features a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a driver-oriented 11.9-inch central multimedia display in portrait format with the option for tilt from 15 to 40 degrees to prevent reflections caused by sunlight when the soft top is open. Another highlight is the 64-colour ambient lighting that sweeps from the cockpit across the doors and rear side panels to behind the rear seats.

Under the hood, is the AMG-enhanced M256M 3.0-litre, inline six-cylinder, turbocharged engine that develops 437 bhp and 560 Nm of peak torque, which gets an additional boost thanks to the 48V mild hybrid system, taking the number to 600 Nm for 10 seconds. Power is delivered to all the wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. This helps the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet to catapult from 0-100 kmph in 4.3 seconds and 4.1 seconds (overboost mode) with a top speed limited at 250 kmph.
