Nissan Motor India has unveiled ambitious expansion plans targeting 200,000 vehicle production by FY27, with export markets accounting for approximately 100,000 units, Managing Director Saurabh Vatsa announced, says a report by ET Auto.
This announcement comes at a time when it has sold over two lakh units of its Magnite SUV, marking a key milestone for the automaker in the competitive sub-four-metre SUV segment.
The Japanese automaker's commitment includes a substantial $700 million investment in new vehicle development slated for launch between 2025 and 2027. This expansion strategy comes at a time when Nissan reassures stakeholders of its long-term commitment to the Indian market, despite recently divesting its majority 51 per cent manufacturing stake to partner Renault.
Meanwhile, responding to recent global reports speculating about potential factory shutdowns, Nissan has issued a firm rebuttal, labelling the claims as speculative and lacking any basis in official company plans.
The proposed 200,000-unit annual production represents a 100 per cent increase from the current fiscal year's output of 100,000 vehicles manufactured at Nissan's Chennai facility. Current operations see 72,000 units designated for international markets, comprising 72 per cent of total production.
“What is really important to see is that this year, which is one year minus the new products, we have a future runway defined for our network. As Nissan is getting ready to expand its future product portfolio, a lot of new (dealer) partners are now approaching us because they can now see that we are going to grow from one car portfolio to a multiple car portfolio in multiple segments with multiple powertrain options,” Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan, was quoted as saying.
Nissan's product roadmap features three upcoming launches: a B-segment multipurpose vehicle debuting in Q1 2026, followed by both five-seat and seven-seat C-segment SUVs in early 2027. Given the Magnite's current presence across 65+ international markets, similar global distribution is anticipated for these new models.
The enhanced product lineup is driving dealer interest, with Nissan targeting approximately 180 dealership locations by year-end. The expanded network will play a crucial role in supporting increased production volumes across domestic and export markets.
