The divestment in RNAIPL—Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd—appears to have fuelled speculation about Nissan scaling down its stake or interests in India.
In response to recent global reports speculating about potential factory shutdowns, Japanese automaker Nissan has issued a firm rebuttal, labelling the claims as speculative and lacking any basis in official company plans. Reports circulating in both international and domestic media suggested that the company may be considering shuttering manufacturing operations in multiple countries, including Japan, Mexico, India, South Africa, and Argentina.

However, Nissan has categorically denied any such developments, especially regarding its operations in India. In a media briefing, Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, clarified that the company has no intentions of exiting the Indian market or scaling back its manufacturing presence in the country.
“What’s important is that I must put to rest any speculation that Nissan is planning to exit India, and RNAIPL stake-sale dilution is an indication of that. I think that is misconstrued messaging out of what we have said domestically or globally. And Nissan is not going anywhere out of India,” Vatsa stated.
The mention of RNAIPL—Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd—appears to have fuelled speculation about Nissan scaling down its stake or interests in India. However, the company maintains that any interpretation linking stake changes to a potential exit is unfounded.

Further cementing its commitment to the Indian market, Nissan reiterated its product roadmap, which includes the launch of a new B-segment multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and two C-segment SUVs. These models are expected to play a critical role in the brand’s local portfolio, aimed at increasing competitiveness and market share.
“It’s very important to understand that we are well-entrenched in India,” Vatsa added. “And like we met a lot of you last year in July and then in October, we are here, and we have shown you our product portfolio cadence. All of it is on track.”
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from Nissan’s global headquarters in Yokohama regarding any imminent factory closures in any market. The company continues to operate its Chennai-based manufacturing plant through its alliance with Renault, serving both domestic and export markets.
