Former Manchester United CEO, Richard Arnold has been hired by TVS for Norton’s global expansion.
Norton Motorcycles, which TVS Motor Company owns, announced today that it will enter the Indian market soon. Rumours that Norton is making its India debut have been running for the past few years, ever since it took over the iconic British marquee in 2020. The other big news is that Norton has confirmed that it will be launching six new motorcycles in a phased manner in the coming three years. Apart from India, Norton will also commence operations in the USA, Germany, France and Italy. Its parent company, TVS recently made its debut in the Italian market.
TVS also announced that it will be investing £200 million (close to ₹2,200 crores) across the life of investment for the development of upcoming Norton bikes, R&D and its manufacturing facility. The press release stated that the new Norton range of motorcycles will be based on the brands philosophy of ‘design, dynamism and detail’. We recently did an analysis on what direction Norton should take for its future range of bikes.
Commenting on the announcement, Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director, TVS Motor Company, said: “Our vision, commitment and investment into the Norton brand is entering an exciting phase. We look forward to sharing that with motorcyclists across the world.”
TVS has also assembled a new team of senior management officials to drive Norton’s expansion in the future. Richard Arnold, Former CEO of Manchester United football club takes over the role of Executive Director of Norton and will be heading the expansion in the above-mentioned new countries. Brian Gillen joins as the CTO from the renowned Italian brand MV Agusta. Meghashyam Dighole, a veteran at TVS has been appointed as the Senior VP of the new product development and will be in charge of integrating the resources between both the brands. RM Chokkalingam joins as the COO and he played a crucial role in the production of BMW motorcycles at the TVS plant in Hosur.
TVS hasn’t revealed any details about the upcoming Norton bike and the only information we have is that it will make its global debut in 2025. While Norton’s India entry is still some time away, another British brand, BSA will be riding in on the streets of our country.
