Nothing Phone (2) launch will take place on July 11
Poised to be among the most anticipated smartphone debuts of the year, the Nothing Phone (2) has set the tech world abuzz. The British smartphone brand has now confirmed that the launch will take place on July 11, with India featuring prominently among the initial markets. Carl Pei, the founder of Nothing, has been dropping tantalising hints about the forthcoming event, set to kick off at 8:30 PM on the aforementioned date, across the brand's official website and YouTube channel.
Pei has also let slip that a refreshed version of the Nothing OS will accompany the launch and is scheduled for rollout to the Phone (1) come August.
A sneak peek at the Nothing Phone (2) reveals the subtle hint of a reimagined Glyph interface adorning the device's rear panel, signalling a significant design overhaul. A refreshed layout for the LED strips is also in the offing, including one encircling the camera setup—a detail confirmed by leaked renders courtesy of @OnLeaks.
Details regarding the device's specifications have gradually begun to surface. It was revealed as early as February that the phone would be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, Qualcomm's flagship chip for the latter half of 2022. Boasting a 4nm design, this processor marks a considerable upgrade from the Snapdragon 778G+ housed in the Phone (1)—a development also recently announced by Pei.
The Phone (2) is likely to feature a robust 4,700mAh battery, complemented by a 6.7-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. In keeping with its commitment to sustainability, Nothing has announced that the smartphone will incorporate recycled materials and be packaged in plastic-free materials. As with its predecessor, the Phone (2) will also be manufactured in India.
Owners of the Phone (2) can anticipate receiving three years' worth of Android OS updates and an additional four years of security updates—a service offering on par with OnePlus, a company Pei co-founded prior to establishing Nothing.
Perhaps the most significant point of conjecture surrounds the Phone (1)'s perceived weakness: its camera. Many are hopeful that the Phone (2) will rectify this shortcoming, though it remains to be seen whether this will entail major enhancements to the existing camera hardware or the addition of a new camera altogether.
While billed as a more premium offering as the Phone (1), the Nothing Phone (2) will likely not cross the Rs 50,000 threshold and will compete with the likes of the OnePlus 11R and the Google Pixel 7 smartphones.
