Both models get 1.5 kWh removable batteries
Ola Electric has expanded its product portfolio by launching four new scooters called, the S1 Z and Gig. Both scooters are available with removable 1.5 kWh battery pack options. These e-scooters are of the affordable kind with prices starting at ₹39,999 for the Gig and ₹ 59,999 for the S1 Z. Deliveries for the two are slated to commence from April and May next year, respectively. Here’s what makes them different to Ola’s S1 range of e-scooters.
The Ola S1 Gig is available in two variants: Gig and Gig+. The Gig is available with just one 1.5 kWh portable battery that is good for 112 km of IDC range on a single charge. The battery comes paired with a 250W motor which is good for a top speed of 25 kmph. The Gig+ can accommodate dual batteries, and with both of them on board, the IDC range increases to 157 km, on a single charge. The batteries here power a bigger 1.5 kW electric motor, so the top speed also increases to 45 kmph. However, Ola has not mentioned each battery's time to charge fully.
As for their application, both the Ola Gig scooters will be used for commercial purposes. Therefore, there are no instrument clusters here at all, instead, there’s a QR scanner in its place. Customers/ or business owners can use their mobile phones to scan the code using the Ola app to unlock the scooters.
Just like the Gig, the Ola S1 Z is also available in two variants: Z and Z+. Both are available with just one 1.5 kWh battery pack as standard, with the provision to accommodate a second battery pack of the same capacity. With one battery pack, the S1 Zs are good for 75 km of range on a single charge, but with two batteries on board, the scooters can travel up to 146 km, which are again IDC range figures.
Both scooters employ the same 3 kW electric motor, which Ola claims can help the S1 Zs accelerate from 0-40 kmph in 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 70 kmph. Despite the provision for two removable battery pack options, Ola has designed an accommodative boot space, with two storage space options. Unlike the Ola Gig, the Ola S1 Z scooters are available with an LCD display but details regarding the connectivity features are still scarce.
The Ola Gig scooters are one of the most affordable Ola scooters yet. Wherein, the Ola Gig is priced at ₹39,999 and the Gig+ will set you back by ₹49,999. On the other hand, with a bit more oomph and premium flair, the Ola S1 Z is priced at ₹59,999, and the S1 Z+ is slightly more expensive at ₹69,999.
Bookings for all four scooters are open on Ola’s website for ₹499. Deliveries for the same will commence from April 2025 onwards. While these new products make the brand more accessible, it still doesn’t solve the issues that Ola’s customers are dealing with the brand currently. Hopefully, the brand will reveal more details and take a more serious initiative to help customers breathe easier.
