Ola is planning to release 6 new scooters on three different platforms
Ola Electric concluded FY25 with a 30 percent market share in the electric two-wheeler space. However, its stronghold in the segment has come under threat from established brands like Bajaj and TVS. Hence, the electric-only startup is planning to launch 14 new products, which include 2 electric commercial three-wheelers, from Q2 of FY26 onwards. The company hasn’t given an entire timeline for all of the models, but we should expect more details come August 15.
The company plans to release 12 new two-wheelers. Of these 6 will be e-scooters and the others e-motorcycles. Ola is planning to have three scooter platforms going forwards: S1, S2 and S3. In addition to the current S1 series models that are already on sale, as well as the S1 Z and Gig e-scooters (deliveries of these will begin shortly), there will be a new S1 Sports series of scooters. Hopefully, this means Ola will have new e-scooters that will cater to the sporty buyer, like Ather has been so successful for years.
Similarly, there will be a S2 City, S2 Sport and S2 Tourer series, likely to be a proper generational update in a couple of years’ time. And finally, there will be the S3 series, which are likely to be maxi-scooters, or maxi-styled at least. These are likely to be called S3 Grand Adventure, S3 Grand Tourer.
Furthermore, the six e-motorcycle concepts that have already been shown earlier will make it into production in some form or the other. These should come after a healthy period of the deliveries of the Roadster bikes commencing, which has already been delayed. This period of time should help the company understand the nuances of electric motorcycles, the issues that the customers might face and the unique challenges it brings when compared to e-scooters.
Will the flurry of such products help Ola’s case? We do hope the company fixes its irritant issues and service troubles rapidly, something that caused much harm to it in FY25.
