Currently, the most affordable S1 X trims costs ₹ 74,999
During the press meet surrounding the IPO, Ola Electric has shown us a glimpse of what to expect in the future from the company. And the first key product will be an even more affordable electric scooter, positioned below the current S1 X.
Considering the base spec S1 X costs ₹ 74,999 (ex-showroom), we think that the upcoming e-scooter will carry a sticker price in the region of ₹ 60,000. And that would be really stunning, especially for those who are looking at a decent city runabout for short commutes. These should replace the current low-spec electric offerings that are flooded in the market, accelerating electric adoption.
The S1 X already boasts of very few features as it aims to offer a no-frills riding experience. Thus, the upcoming e-scooter might miss out on bits like cruise control and advanced regen settings.
We don’t expect Ola to go down on the battery size, offering the same 2 kWh option as a starting point. Where the compromise could come is in the motor with the 2.7 kW hub motor which could be tuned for an even more sedate ride. Hence, top speed might further be reduced from 85 kmph. We hope that the range figure doesn’t subside, though, continuing to offer an IDC figure of 95 km (84 km/71 km real world figure claims in Eco and Normal mode).
We anticipate more announcements on the same on August 15 where more details about this affordable e-scooter as well as its mass market electric motorcycles will be announced.
