The OnePlus 12 could feature Sony's latest Lytia dual-layer stacked CMOS sensor.

OnePlus has officially confirmed its partnership with Sony to bring an advanced new camera sensor to its upcoming flagship phone, the OnePlus 12. As per recent leaks and teasers, the OnePlus 12 will feature Sony's latest Lytia dual-layer stacked CMOS sensor for its primary rear camera.

The new Lytia sensor utilizes separate layers for the transistor and photodiode, allowing for larger diodes that can capture more light. While OnePlus already used a previous generation Lytia sensor in its first foldable smartphone— the OnePlus Open, the OnePlus 12 seems to be getting an upgraded version.

Rival brands Oppo and Vivo, who share a parent company with OnePlus, have also announced partnerships with Sony to use Lytia sensors in their next flagship phones - the Find X6 and X100. This indicates Lytia's potential status as the premier mobile camera sensor for flagships going forward.

Earlier leaks suggested the OnePlus 12 will have a 50MP primary Sony IMX966 sensor along with a 64MP OmniVision telephoto capable of 3x optical zoom and a 48MP ultrawide unit. The phone is also confirmed to use a BOE-made LTPO OLED display with a variable refresh rate.

The OnePlus 12 is expected to launch first in China sometime next month, followed by a global release in early 2024.
