The Seattle-based electric bike maker debuted two new e-bike models and new EV battery technology.
One of the US’s leading electric bike makers, Rad Power Bikes has debuted two brand new e-bike models – Radster Road and Radster Trail e-bikes. Moreover, these brand new bikes will also debut Rad Power Bikes’ new Safe Shield Battery. The latter was developed to mitigate growing concerns over battery safety by incorporating a thermal-resistant technology.
In addition to being certified by the safety organisation Underwriter Laboratories, the battery also implements potted electronics construction that involves encapsulating the battery cells with a gelatinous compound for better protection from damage, moisture, or corrosive agents. The battery is rated at 48V 15Ah with 720Wh capacity, which also makes it Rad Power Bikes’ largest capacity and longest-range battery to date.
As for the new Radster Road and Radster Trail, both debut the company’s new LCD display with a USB-charging port, rear LED turn signals, and a torque sensor for more natural and responsive pedal assist. Besides, the electrical components on board also get IPX6 water resistance.
Hardware components are similar in both the bikes which includes hydraulic disc brakes, a thru-axle front wheel hub, and a powerful 200-lumen headlight. However, the Radster Road and Radster Trail boast separate styles that is due to the inclusion of different frames and fenders to suit their inidividual styles of riding and terrain. An NFC key fob for locking the bike without the need for an actual physical key.
But the biggest piece of tech introduced with these new bikes is its Class 3 capabilities. This means both the bikes come with multiple speed settings that will allow riders to reach up to 32 kmph on throttle operations, along with two additional settings that can further unlock acceleration up to 45 kmph on pedal assist.
While Radster doesn’t sell in India, there are a handful of manufacturers like E Motorrad, Ninety One, and Hero Lectro who are selling good e-bikes. Prices of the models from them in India range from ₹27,000 and can go up to ₹70,000.
