Get ready for a thoroughly modern Royal Enfield as the Himalayan 450, or actually the Himalayan 452 as we have found out, is packing a mean punch. And while we have rarely questioned the legitimacy of these registration documents, there’s one area where we think there’s been a typo of sorts.
Firstly, the crucial bit of info that was unearthed from this was that the new Himalayan’s liquid-cooled motor will be displacing 451.65 cee cees. Thus, making it the largest single-cylinder mill in the company’s portfolio going forwards. But unlike the others with their classic-al approach, the Himalayan 452 will have a relatively shorter stroke and be tuned for better performance.
And the proof of that is the rated power figure of 39.48 bhp, a sizeable bump up from the current 410LS mill. The peak power is made quite a lot higher in the rev range, at 8000 rpm, 1500 rpm higher than the current bike. However, if you are expecting a significant step up in torque as well, that might not be the case. While the documents don’t reveal the spec, we figure it could be around the 37-39 Nm mark.
While the weight of the motorcycle is still a concern (considering the gross vehicle weight deduction leads to still a 200+ kilo motorcycle), the area of genuine confusion is elsewhere. The documents state that the wheelbase of the Himalayan 452 is 1510 mm. That’s a seriously long motorcycle, almost cruiser like.
However, when we did check out the upcoming Shotgun’s document (story coming soon on Acko Drive), the wheelbase of the bobber stated was 1465 mm, which is the same as the current Himalayan. More so, the Super Meteor 650’s wheelbase is 1500 mm. So, it is highly likely that the two motorcycles have had their wheelbase numbers swapped during documentation and this little nugget of human error should be forgiven.
Whatever be the case, we will get all the details of this Himalayan 452 come the end of the month. And we will be riding it in the Himalayas, where it is meant to show its true colours.
