Samsung Galaxy AI S24 Features Might Only Be Free Till 2025

In a report filed by Android Police, it has been revealed that the generative AI features on the new Galaxy S24 models by Samsung will only be free until 2025. Initially, they were assumed to be free for the lifespan of the products, but now Samsung has left the door open to potentially make these features chargeable as part of a subscription services push. Most of the new features do not require an active Internet connection as processing is handled entirely on the device, but some do require a cloud service.

Samsung has also announced that these features will be made available on existing Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S23 series, the Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and the Tab S9 will receive some or all of these features in the first half of 2024.

Interestingly, Samsung has not publicly disclosed any proposed end date for the free availability of Galaxy AI services. The possibility that a subscription charge will apply in the future was revealed in the fine print of the US listing pages for the newly launched phones. This strategy mirrors what Google has done with the Pixel 8 series, as features such as Magic Editor are offered behind a Google One subscription.

Samsung leverages Google's Gemini models for Galaxy AI, with access to the most advanced one Gemini Pro, being included as part of Google One. Samsung has also followed Google's lead to offer seven years of Android OS updates and security fixes on the Galaxy S24 series.
