In the past, Exynos chips have been criticised for overheating and aggressive throttling.
Fresh reports shed new light on Samsung's processors for next year's Galaxy S24 series. Allegedly, the top-tier S24 Ultra will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. However, the S24 Plus and base S24 models will reportedly use Samsung's new Exynos 2400 processor.
In the past, Exynos chips have been criticised for overheating and aggressive throttling. Since the S21 series, Samsung switched entirely to Qualcomm's flagship silicon, even using a customised version promising better performance.
The Exynos 2400 should still impress, with a peak 3.16GHz clock speed. It may also incorporate a GPU co-developed with AMD using RDNA 3 technology. The Galaxy S24 Plus could get a WQHD+ 3,120 x 1,440 screen with an insane 2,500 nit peak brightness.
The S24 Ultra is tipped to offer up to 2TB storage, surpassing even iPhone Pro models. For US variants, all S24 models may pack Qualcomm chips for optimal network support.
In summary, Samsung's 2024 strategy seems to be reserving its best Qualcomm silicon for the top Ultra, while testing Exynos reception on the Plus and base models. But performance and heating issues that plagued old Exynos chips are hopefully a thing of the past.
