Samsung is currently finalising the specifications for its smart glasses.
Samsung is set to enter the smart glasses market with a new wearable codenamed "Haean," according to a new report. First teased during Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event in January, these smart glasses are now expected to launch by the end of 2025, coinciding with the release of Samsung's "Project Moohan" extended reality (XR) headset.
The "Haean" name comes from a city in Samsung's home country of South Korea.
According to South Korean publication ETNews, Samsung is currently finalising the specifications for its smart glasses, which will feature an exceptionally thin and lightweight design.
The glasses are being developed to seamlessly integrate into daily life, with a form factor that accommodates various face shapes and reportedly looks nearly indistinguishable from conventional glasses or sunglasses -- similar to Meta's Ray-Ban Smart Glasses.
Specifications suggest the glasses will run on Android XR OS, a dedicated operating system (OS) for extended reality devices announced last year. The wearable will also support Samsung's Gemini AI assistant and feature cameras and motion tracking sensors.
Unlike some competing AR smart glasses, Samsung's offering will reportedly not include displays. Instead, the wearable is expected to focus on functionality similar to Meta's smart glasses, including video recording, music playback, phone calls, and social media sharing capabilities.
The smart glasses are expected to leverage Samsung's multimodal artificial intelligence technology, likely powered by the company's Galaxy AI suite – an emphasis the company highlighted during January's Galaxy Unpacked event when discussing how AI would transform interaction with new device form factors.
Samsung's "Project Moohan" XR headset, which will launch alongside the smart glasses, has been confirmed as the first XR headset to use Android XR OS -- developed in partnership with Google and Qualcomm.
It is likely to feature eye tracking capabilities similar to Apple Vision Pro, with additional control methods including hand gestures and voice commands.
