Simple Wave Family Scooter Launched in India Starting at ₹1,09,999: 243km Range, 70L Storage Space

Simple Energy has launched the Simple Wave, its most affordable electric scooter. This is a family scooter, positioned below the company’s existing high-performance options, and was previously rumoured to be called the Simple Arrive. Six options have been launched, with prices starting at ₹1,09,999 (ex-factory, introductory). The company claims range of up to 243 km per charge (IDC) and class-leading storage space of 70 litres.

The Simple Wave is available in multiple battery capacity options, and buyers can choose combinations with connected features and display types at different price levels. There are three broad variants — the Simple Wave S, Simple Wave, and Simple Wave+ — and six options in total.

Deliveries will begin from September 25. The prices of all variants will be announced soon.

Simple Wave variants and specifications

The top-end Simple Wave + features a 5 kWh Nickel Cobalt Aluminium battery pack and is rated for a range of 243 km (IDC), with a top speed of 90 kmph in Sport Mode. Lower variants are equipped with 3.7 kWh, 2.7 kWh, and 2.2 kWh batteries (Lithium Iron Phosphate), offering up to 171 km, 132 km, and 110 km (IDC), respectively, with the speed topping out at 75 kmph. All batteries are rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, enabling a 300 mm water-wading capability.

Fast charging gets users from zero to 80 percent in as little as 70 minutes for the base variant or 2 hours 15 minutes for the top-end one, using a 750W external charger. There’s a smart charging mode that optimises battery health if a user leaves their scooter plugged in overnight to charge. A third-gen battery management system offers improved range estimates and thermal protection, and can run its own diagnostics. The scooter’s screen will show real-time range based on remaining capacity.

All variants have a 6.4 kW PMSM motor producing 179 Nm wheel torque, except for the entry-level Simple Wave S EBN, which has a 4.5 kWh unit. The motor is designed in-house and manufactured without using rare earth materials. Simple Energy claims a 15 percent reduction in noise and vibration with this engine, and there’s also a patented noise reduction system called HushDrive for the transmission, using moulded rubber dampeners around the chain perimeter.

The Simple Wave can accelerate from zero to 40 kmph in 3.3s, making it India’s fastest family scooter, according to the company. Gradeability of 20 degrees helps when riding over hills and navigating ramps in parking spaces.

All variants offer multiple riding modes called Ride, Eco, and EcoX, while the higher ones also have a Sport mode for better performance.

The Simple Wave is equipped with a 220mm front disc brake and a rear drum brake. There’s telescopic suspension in the front, with progressive twin-shock adjustable suspension at the rear. It also has 12-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The Simple Wave is built on the same platform as the Simple One, with several modifications. The company says it moved away from monoshocks to a dual suspension setup to improve boot space and load-carrying ability. It also has a wider rear frame, and denser motor and transmission packaging to maximise space for people and cargo. Chassis durability has been ride-tested for 100 million km in real-world conditions across India.

For safety, a feature called DropSafe cuts power to the motor if the scooter starts to tip over. There’s also Super Hold for steep inclines, and traction control on higher variants. All variants have a Reverse mode, Crawl mode for traffic, and Limp Home mode if you’re ever stuck with an extremely low battery.  

Simple Wave design

The design of the Simple Wave was inspired by dolphins, with smooth continuous surfaces and a silhouette conveying effortless motion, according to the company. It consciously avoids sharp angles and aggressive lines. Dolphin motifs can be seen on the rear-view mirrors and side panels.

The Simple Wave is equipped with LED headlights, a taillight, turn signals, license plate illumination, and ambient lights in the boot and near the charger for ease of use. The continuous DRL creates a smile-shaped signature. Exit lights stay on after parking, to help users find their way in the dark. 

At 920mm, this scooter has India’s longest seat, for two adults to sit comfortably. Seat height is 775mm and ground clearance is 175mm. The handlebar height has been reduced to appeal to buyers of all shapes and sizes. There’s a USB Type-A charging port for portable devices on the front.

Under-seat storage is spacious enough for two helmets, at 63 litres. An additional 4-litre compartment on the side, called the Pill, can be accessed while the rider is sitting on the scooter, and is suitable for storing documents, sunglasses, a water bottle, a raincoat, or other things that are needed often. The 3-litre glove box takes total storage space to 70 litres. The company will sell a second Pill as an accessory that can be fitted to the other side of the scooter.

Higher variants feature a 7-inch non-touch TFT display with auto brightness adjustment. This system is powered by a 480Mhz Arm Cortex-M85 GPU, and enables turn-by-tun navigation, music controls, call controls, and message notifications over Bluetooth. There’s a DND mode to reduce distractions, and users can see a live efficiency graph as well as range estimate based on remaining battery capacity.

The Simple Connect app, available for smartphones and smart watches, enables features such as Ping My Scooter which flashes the lights and horn, as well as live location sharing, ride statistics, push navigation, geo- and time-based fencing, and theft and tow alerts. It also shows warnings and status updates, allows for speedometer calibration, and lets users call for roadside assistance. It also integrates an EV diagnostics and service platform, with AI-assisted root cause analysis.

Non-TFT variants have an “InfiniteBlack” high-contrast multi-segment display showing vital information. Bluetooth is standard, while the higher-end variants get GPS, Wi-Fi, and OTA update support. An Incognito mode pauses tracking and sharing.
Optional accessories include a floor mat, aluminium foot rests, a backrest, and an all-round crash guard.

Simple Energy has also announced that it will be opening company-owned and operated Simple Super Labs in every state and every city, to reduce average repair times from 15 days to 3 days. In the first phase, starting in November this year, these facilities will open in Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Goa, Pune, Delhi, Odisha, and Kolkata.
