The new Kodiaq is expected to launch in India in 2025 and is likely to come as a CBU import.
The second-generation Skoda Kodaiq has been spotted testing in India for the first time. The new Kodiaq made its global debut in October 2023 and is expected to launch in India in sometime 2025.
The Skoda Kodaiq spied in India did not have any camouflage, hinting that is ready for launch in India. It is expected to come to India as a completely built unit (CBU) when it is launched. The second-gen Kodiaq has an evolutionary design language compared to the first-gen model which is still on sale in India.
It has Skoda’s signature grille with an LED light bar running across the width. Flanking the grille are a pair of LED Matrix headlamps that still have a split design. The lower portion bumper has a honeycomb design and it also gets a radar module, hinting at the presence of ADAS technology.
In profile, the second-gen Kodiaq looks like an evolved version of the outgoing model. Unlike the current model, the new Kodiaq has a rising beltline towards the D-pillar and the accents on the pillars give it a floating roof effect. The new Kodiaq gets C-shaped LED taillamps and redesigned bumpers.
The interior of the Kodiaq spotted in India wasn’t visible in the spy shots but expect it to have the same layout as the global model. It is likely to come with a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, wireless charging, and physical knobs which Skoda calls Smart Dials that control a variety of the car's functions and have three 1.26-inch displays. In terms of safety, the Kodiaq will come with nine airbags, ESC, ADAS and more.
Under the hood, the Kodaiq gets a plethora of powertrain options including a mild hybrid, petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid. It remains to be seen which of these will make it to India but the petrol powertrain has the highest chances as the current model is also petrol-only.
Powertrains | 1.5 turbo-petrol mild hybrid | 2.0 turbo-petrol | 2.0 diesel | 1.5 turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid |
---|---|---|---|---|
Peak Power | 148 bhp | 201 bhp | 148 bhp/ 190 bhp | 201 bhp |
Max Torque | 250 Nm | 320 Nm | 360 Nm/ 400 Nm | 350 Nm |
Transmission | 7-speed DCT | 7-speed DCT | 7-speed DCT | 6-speed DCT |
The facelifted version of the first-gen Kodiaq is available in a single, fully-loaded L&K trim and retails for ₹39.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). When the second-gen Kodiaq is launched in India, expect it to be priced at a slight premium and it will compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian.
