The series production of the Skoda Kylaq has now begun at Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd’s (SAVWIPL) plant in Chakan, Pune. To accommodate the subcompact SUV, SAVWIPL has also increased the production capacity in the Pune plant by 30 per cent. The Kylaq is the fifth model of the MQB-A0-IN platform and all five are built in Chakan.
SAVWIPL also said that has increased its local supplier base by 10 per cent to “improve turnaround time and reduce cost of ownership”. As mentioned earlier, SAVWIPL has increased production capacity by 30 per cent and says it will now be able to produce 2.55 lakh units annually at its Chakan plant. Furthermore, production lines at the plant now run at 40 jobs per hour and SAVWIPL claims this will improve operational efficiency.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO, SAVWIPL, said, “We’re thrilled to begin production of Škoda Auto India’s first sub-4-meter SUV. Congratulations to the entire team on the successful start of production. Kylaq is engineered and developed in India to cater to the evolving requirements of Indian customers.”
Andreas Dick, Member of the Board of Management of Škoda Auto for Production and Logistics, said, “The successful start of production for Škoda Kylaq reflects the incredible teamwork and collaboration between our teams in India and the Czech Republic. Every detail has been meticulously planned and executed, from design to the implementation of advanced manufacturing processes, ensuring we meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.”
