Tata Motors has introduced the highly anticipated "Racer" variant of its Altroz hatchback in India. This performance-focused model is available in three variants: R1, R2, and R3. The R1 variant is priced at ₹9.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the mid-spec R2 at ₹10.49 lakh, and the top-spec R3 at ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). You get to choose from three dual-tone paint options: Atomic Orange, Avenue White, and Pure Grey. Bookings for the Altroz Racer are open with a token amount of ₹21,000.

The Altroz Racer features significant design enhancements for a sportier look. Consistent with its concept version, it boasts a blacked-out bonnet and roof, complemented by a dual-tone paint scheme. The roof, boot, and bonnet feature twin white stripes, adding to its aggressive appearance. New diamond-cut alloy wheels and a "Racer" badge on the fender complete its exterior styling.

Inside, the Altroz Racer offers several premium features. It includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, an air purifier, heated front seats, wireless charging, and an electric sunroof. The sporty ambience is enhanced by orange highlights, ambient lighting, all-black upholstery with orange and white stripes, and "Racer" lettering on the headrests. The car is also equipped with a comprehensive safety kit, including six airbags, a blind spot monitor, and a 360-degree camera.

The Altroz Racer is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 170 Nm of peak torque and 118 bhp of maximum power, similar to the engine in the Nexon SUV. It is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The main competitor to the Tata Altroz Racer is the Hyundai i20 N Line, which is also a performance-oriented hatchback. Other potential rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, both featuring 1.0-litre turbo petrol engines. Currently, the Volkswagen Polo and Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS are not available in the Indian market, giving the Altroz Racer a competitive edge.
