There is speculation that Tata Motors might also offer an automatic variant.
Tata Motors is set to expand its Nexon lineup by introducing a CNG version in September 2024. The launch is part of a broader strategy that includes the highly anticipated Curvv.ev and Curvv ICE models. The introduction of the Nexon iCNG will further diversify the brand's offerings in the subcompact SUV segment, making it one of the most versatile models in terms of powertrain choices, which currently include petrol, diesel, and electric versions.

The Tata Nexon iCNG will stand out from its competitors by combining CNG technology with a turbocharged petrol engine. The 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor is expected to deliver 118 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque in its standard mode. Regarding transmission, the Nexon iCNG will likely come with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
However, there is speculation that Tata Motors might also offer an automatic variant, leveraging its experience with the Tiago and Tigor CNG models, which both come with an AMT option. If Tata manages to introduce an automatic variant, it could appeal to customers seeking the convenience of an automatic transmission coupled with the cost-efficiency of CNG.
Upon launch, the Tata Nexon iCNG will compete primarily with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, another key player in the subcompact SUV segment. Given the addition of CNG, the Nexon is expected to carry a price premium of approximately ₹60,000 to ₹80,000 over the petrol variant.
