With the Sierra EV now on sale from ₹18.79 lakh, Tata Motors has two electric SUVs sharing the same underpinnings but chasing different buyers.
Tata Motors launched the Sierra EV on 30 June 2026 at an introductory price of Rs 18.79 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning the revived nameplate directly below the Harrier EV in its electric SUV line-up. Deliveries begin 15 July. The move gives Tata two electric SUVs built on the same Acti.ev+ platform, sharing a 75kWh battery option, dual-motor "Quad Wheel Drive" hardware and much of their cabin technology — yet aimed at distinctly different buyers.
The Harrier EV, on sale since June 2025 and priced from ₹21.49-30.23 lakh, remains Tata's flagship electric SUV. It drew more than 10,000 bookings on its first day of sale and, by November 2025, was outselling the Nexon EV. The Sierra EV undercuts it by roughly ₹2.7 lakh at the entry point, positioning itself as the value-focused alternative rather than a direct replacement.
On paper, the two trade blows. The Sierra EV's 75kWh rear-wheel-drive variant claims 665km on the MIDC cycle, ahead of the Harrier EV's best of 627km, largely because the Sierra is lighter. The Harrier EV counters with outright performance: its Quad Wheel Drive variant combines a 156 bhp front motor with a 235 bhp rear unit for a confirmed 313bhp and 504Nm, reaching 100kmph in 6.3 seconds. The lighter Sierra EV's QWD variant, despite slightly lower combined output of 302 bhp, is quicker at 5.8 seconds. Practicality tilts towards the Sierra, whose 622-litre boot outsizes the Harrier's 502 litres, while the Harrier's longer wheelbase and wider stance lend it greater road presence.
Both cars use LFP battery chemistry, support 120kW DC fast charging, and carry a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty for the first owner — reflecting Tata's push to normalise electric ownership rather than treat it as a premium add-on.
The launches arrive as competition intensifies. Mahindra's BE 6 and XEV 9e have eroded Tata's dominance of India's electric SUV segment, with Tata's monthly EV market share slipping from 62.7 per cent in June 2024 to 35.8 per cent a year later, even as it retained overall leadership with 38.7 per cent in February 2026. Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said the company was "now focused on meeting" demand rather than creating it, noting that electric passenger vehicle penetration had risen from 2.5 per cent in FY25 to 4.5 per cent in FY26.
For buyers, the choice reduces to priorities: the Harrier EV suits those wanting a larger cabin and outright power; the Sierra EV appeals to those chasing range, boot space and a lower entry price.
