The Cybertruck aims to provide a radical take on pickup truck design.
Tesla's much-delayed Cybertruck has given us a first glimpse of its interior ambient lighting, thanks to leaked photos from a Reddit user. The images reveal a continuous red strip running from the dashboard to the front passenger door and along the rear right passenger door card - similar to the recently updated Tesla Model 3.
The Cybertruck prototype spotted also features the brand's signature yoke steering wheel design and large central touchscreen display. However, finer details are difficult to make out in the dimly-lit shots. This is likely the same test vehicle teased earlier by Elon Musk with black wheel covers and triangular side mirrors.
In typical Tesla fashion, the Cybertruck aims to provide a radical take on pickup truck design with its angular stainless steel body and "cyberpunk" inspired styling. However, Musk admits the vehicle's unique styling has also created some manufacturing challenges, especially with panel gaps.
In a leaked email, the CEO stated "Due to the nature of Cybertruck, which is made of bright metal with mostly straight edges, any dimensional variation shows up like a sore thumb. If Lego and soda cans, which are very low cost, can do this, so can we."
Initially unveiled in 2019 before rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Cybertruck has faced long delays. But Musk claims it is Tesla's "best product ever." The company is currently homologating the pickup and plans to host a delivery event as early as next month. Volume production will only begin in 2024.
With its unconventional looks and ambitious feature set, the Cybertruck has huge hype to live up to. Tesla fans are eagerly awaiting its launch to see if it can meet expectations and finally give the EV maker an entry in the lucrative US truck market, currently dominated by traditional Detroit automakers.
