Tesla Inc.’s counsel in India moved the High Court stating that Tesla Power India’s use of the trademark is misleading its potential customers and also harming its business interests. The counsel, Chander Lall, also mentioned that complaints about Tesla Power India’s batteries are being directed to the USA-based manufacturer, as customers are confusing the Indian firm with the USA-based firm.
Lall also claimed that Tesla Power India had been advertising the batteries in India as an EV manufacturer and also misleading customers into thinking that it is part of Tesla Inc. For this, the counsel sought urgent action against Tesla Power’s use of the trademark and to restrict any promotional activities till the next hearing which is on May 22.

In the hearing, Tesla Power India argued that it does not manufacture batteries for EVs. Instead, it produces lead-acid batteries used in conventional vehicles and inverters. Kavinder Khurua, Chairman of Tesla Power India, said the firm has no plans to enter the EV market and clarified that the advertisements are related to the trademark concern another company, e-Ashwa, with which it has a strategic partnership.
