Ford has unveiled its Pikes Peak International Hill Climb competitor, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck. The electric pickup truck produces more than 1,400 bhp. The F-150 Lightning SuperTruck is claimed to produce more than 2,700 kg of downforce at 241 kmph with its extreme aerodynamics.
Speaking of which, the SuperTruck has some insane aerodynamics in the form of a massive splitter at the front, headlamp ducts, hood ducts, diffusers in the side and rear and a humongous rear wing. Furthermore, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck also gets carbon ceramic brakes, magnesium alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres and a customised suspension system.
Inside, the SuperTruck is pretty barebones like any other race car. It has an exposed carbon-fibre floor, a multifunction steering wheel, a single carbon-fibre racing seat, a digital instrument cluster and a whole array of physical buttons that control a plethora of vehicle functions.
Like the SuperVan 4.2, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck has been developed in conjunction with STARD Advanced Research and Development. The electric pickup truck’s powertrain consists of three UHP 6-phase motors and an ultra-high performance Li-Polymer NMC battery.
Ford aims to best its multiple Pikes Peak record it set with the SuperVan 4.2 in 2023. The SuperTruck will be driven by Romain Dumas, who currently holds the record at the Pikes Peak hill climb event which he set in the Volkswagen ID.R in 2018. Dumas commented on the SuperTruck, “In testing, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck has surpassed my expectations, so we are hoping for some good weather to try and do something very special.”
