From Mahindra's BE 6 to Tata's Curvv EV, these are the longest-range electric cars available in India without crossing the ₹20 lakh mark.
Range anxiety, once the single biggest deterrent to buying an electric car in India, is losing its grip. A clutch of EVs priced under ₹20 lakh now promise 450 to 550-plus kilometres on a single charge, figures that were unthinkable in this bracket even two years ago. Here is how the segment's five longest-range options stack up.

Leading the pack is the Mahindra BE 6, priced from ₹18.90 lakh for its entry Pack One trim. Built on Mahindra's INGLO electric platform, the base variant uses a 59 kWh battery and returns an ARAI-claimed range of up to 557 km, comfortably the highest figure available under ₹20 lakh. The BE 6's coupe-SUV styling and sub-seven-second 0-100 kmph time have made it as much a performance statement as a practical purchase, though buyers should note real-world range typically runs 20 to 25 per cent lower than the certified number.

Close behind is the Tata Curvv EV, whose 55 kWh battery pack delivers a claimed 502 km range. Since Tata restructured its line-up under the new Series X badge in May, the Curvv EV's long-range variant starts at ₹16.99 lakh, undercutting the BE 6 by nearly two lakh while giving up relatively little on range. Its coupe-SUV silhouette and 500-litre boot have positioned it as an alternative to compact petrol SUVs for buyers wary of fuel costs.

Tata's own Nexon EV, the vehicle that effectively created this segment, remains competitive with its 45 kWh pack, offering 489 km on paper from ₹17.49 lakh. Its longevity in the market and wide service network continue to make it a default recommendation for first-time EV buyers.

The MG ZS EV, priced from ₹18.98 lakh, uses a 50.3 kWh battery for a certified 461 km range, and pairs this with a more comprehensive safety package than most rivals in this bracket, including six airbags and ADAS on higher trims. Just behind it sits the MG Windsor EV in its Pro guise, whose 52.9 kWh battery returns 449 km from ₹17.38 lakh, alongside cabin features such as a reclining rear bench that have made it popular with urban families.

Taken together, the numbers point to a market shift. Battery pack sizes in the sub-₹20 lakh bracket have grown steadily, and manufacturers are now routinely offering 450 km-plus range without pushing prices into premium territory. That has direct implications for adoption: India's passenger EV penetration remains in single digits, but industry estimates suggest range, not price alone, has been the more persistent barrier outside metro cities.
For now, buyers weighing this bracket have more genuine choice than at any point in the market's short history, with range figures that make intercity travel, not just city commutes, a realistic proposition.
