Toyota India has introduced a new colour option for the Urban Cruiser Taisor as well as made a significant update to the safety features of the subcompact SUV. The Taisor now comes with six airbags as standard, just three weeks after it was made standard in the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
The Taisor gets a new Bluish Black colour, which was already available on the Fronx, the car on which it is based. Toyota says this new colour will be available on select variants, but it didn’t mention which ones. Acko Drive has reached out to Toyota India regarding the variants this colour is available on and whether it has plans to add these to the remaining variants. We will update the story once we receive a response.
More importantly, the Taisor now gets six airbags as standard across all variants. Till now, six airbags were only available on the turbo-petrol variants (G & V), while the remaining variants (E, S and S+) only came with two airbags.
With this, the Taisor has a better chance of scoring a good result at any crash test, as safety watchdogs like Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP give preference to cars that come with this. However, neither has yet crash tested the Taisor or even the Fronx. The Fronx, though, has received a 4-star rating from Japan NCAP.
Other safety features on the Taisor include stability control, hill hold assist, parking sensors, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminders for all seats, ISOFIX mounts and more.
Powering the Taisor are two engine options – a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Both get a 5-speed manual gearbox, and while the petrol gets a 5-speed AMT, the turbo-petrol gets a 6-speed AT.
Rivals of the Taisor include the Fronx, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and Skoda Kylaq.
