The updated Triumph range with a 350 cc range now costs nearly ₹11,000 lesser as compared to the outgoing 400 cc models.

The implementation of the GST 2.0 regime in September 2025 put Bajaj Auto in a spot. According to the new GST regulations, all two-wheelers with an engine displacement up to 350 cc will fall under the 18 percent tax bracket whereas models with larger displacement engines will attract a higher 40 percent tax.

As a result, the 400 cc models produced by Bajaj that included KTM and Triumph attracted a higher GST under the new regime. To counter the same, Bajaj has downsized the engine from a 400 cc unit to a 350 cc unit, in order to attract lower taxes. Hence, the updated Triumph 400 range will be powered by a new 350 cc engine.

Triumph 350cc vs 400cc: Engine & Performance Difference

The new 350 cc engine has been derived from the existing 400 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that now offers a smaller 350 cc displacement. To achieve the lower displacement, the stroke of the engine has been reduced whereas the bore remains unchanged. This change has shifted the power delivery higher up the rev range for the Speed and Scrambler models, with peak power now arriving 500–1,000 rpm later than before.

In contrast, the Thruxton and Tracker reach their peak power at 8,750 rpm, which is 250 rpm earlier than their respective outgoing versions. Downsizing usually causes a drop in power and torque output and it’s the same case with the new 350 cc Triumphs. Power output has dropped by 2-3 horses whereas torque has dropped by up to 5.5 Nm. On the Triumph Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X,  the new 350 cc unit pumps out 36.5 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 32 Nm at 7,000 rpm, which is a drop of 3 bhp and 3.5 Nm respectively. On the Triumph Speed 400 T4, the motor is rated at 29 bhp and 31 Nm, a drop of 2 bhp and 5 Nm.
